Pro Bono Project Volunteer Opportunities

The Project is currently open and working virtually to address ongoing civil legal needs in the community. For volunteers interested in assisting the organization, we are seeking assistance with returning calls on a variety of legal issues, assisting callers who are representing themselves at Orleans and Jefferson Parish District Courts, and develop quick 3-5 minute legal presentations to share with the public.

Accessing the Self-Help Resource Centers

Managing Attorneys Kathleen Legendre and Jesse George discuss the Self-Help Resource Centers at the 24th Judicial District Court and Orleans Civil District Court. Self-Help Resource Centers provide legal information, resources, and court approved forms for self-represented litigants. Stepping Up To Help Pro Se Litigants

Through a collaborative effort between The Pro Bono Project, Southeast Louisiana Legal Services, Family Justice Center, New Orleans Bar Association, and Louisiana Bar Foundation, we forged an agreement to staff the Orleans Parish Civil District Court Self-Help Resource Center beginning in January 2018. The Project also staffs the 24th Judicial District Court’s Self-Help Resource Center at the Jefferson Parish Courthouse in Gretna on Tuesday and Thursday mornings each week.

Partnering Up to Offer Pro Se Help at Orleans Civil District Court

With the guidance of and funding from the Louisiana Bar Foundation (LBF), The Pro Bono Project, Southeast Louisiana Legal Services (SLLS), and the Family Justice Center (FJC) will team up to staff the Orleans Parish Civil District Court (CDC) Self-Help Desk.
