Every year in October the American Bar Association joins legal organizations from around the country in hosting the National Celebration of Pro Bono. Beginning on Sunday, October 23rd, legal aid providers and non-profit organizations like The Pro Bono Project honor their volunteers and supporters. This year The Pro Bono Project is hosting a number of events to draw attention to civil legal aid and the important work volunteer lawyers, law students, paralegals, and others do to support access to justice for under-served and under-represented members of our community.

Disaster Legal Clinic on October 29, 2021

The Pro Bono Project is partnering with Southeast LA Legal Services, Louisiana Appleseed, the LSBA Young Lawyers Division, the City of New Orleans, and others to host a disaster legal clinic for homeowners this Friday, October 29th.

Volunteers are needed to provide legal information on topics ranging from bankruptcy and successions to Insurance Claims and Contractor Fraud. Two hour shifts still available. Register here.

In this period of tremendous need, The Pro Bono Project asks that you consider donating your time, talent, or resources. From raising awareness and promoting our services to volunteering or pledging your support, please join us in our efforts to ensure equal access to justice.

The Spirit of Justice will begin on October 15th and feature a silent auction, food and cocktail recipes from your Justice For All Ball favorites, and much more!

Child In Need Of Care: Training for Children's Attorneys CLE

Join The Pro Bono Project on Friday, November 13 for our free annual six-hour CLE seminar for children's attorneys. Topics this year will include the Indian Child Welfare Act and working with immigrant children. As a condition of this free seminar, we ask that you accept representation in a pro bono CINC case or other matter.

This seminar will be online, and the Zoom link will be disseminated via email the week of the seminar. Because this is an online seminar, we are required to poll attendance during the course. Only those who respond to the attendance polling will receive CLE credit.

The Pro Bono Project presents this one-hour (1.0) CLE seminar on the basics of bankruptcy law. Volunteer attorney Jenny Abshier of Big Easy Law will provide an introduction to bankruptcy law, as well as useful tips and best practices.

We will also introduce attendees to The Pro Bono Project's new Bankruptcy Self-Help Resource Center, a self-help service for pro se bankruptcy filers, developed in conjunction with the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana.

Bankruptcy Self Help Resource Center

On Friday, August 7, 2020, The Pro Bono Project, in partnership with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court - EDLA, will launch the Bankruptcy Self-Help Resource Center, a service of whereby self-represented bankruptcy filers can find helpful information and services about their bankruptcy cases. On the first Friday of each month from 9 AM until noon, volunteers will be available via telephone hotline (504.581.4043) and email to assist filers with the completion of bankruptcy petitions and schedules, to help guide filers through the court’s new Electronic Self-Representation (eSR) system, and to provide referrals for attorneys or other legal resources.

Volunteers do not provide legal advice or representation, but assist visitors with legal forms, information, and referrals. This service is made possible through a generous grant of the American College of Bankruptcy Foundation. If you are interested in volunteering for this service, please contact Managing Attorney Jesse George. Familiarity with bankruptcy law is required.

The Pro Bono Project and Catholic Charities Archdiocese New Orleans offer this free, three-hour CLE seminar on the topic of special immigrant juvenile status cases. The seminar will cover the basics of immigration law, and best practices and practice tips for representing juvenile clients in immigration proceedings. As a condition of attending this free seminar, attendees will be asked to accept volunteer representation in a pro bono immigration case. A case list will be circulated at the training.

The Pro Bono Project is proud to partner with Catholic Charities Archdiocese of New Orleans and members of the Louisiana Immigration Working Group to offer this free, 4-hour CLE seminar, including one hour each of ethics and professionalism. The first hour is an optional introduction to special immigrant juvenile status cases, while the remaining three hours will be a more thorough exploration of specific topics. While attendance is free, we ask that participants agree to accept representation in a pro bono special immigrant juvenile status case -- we will circulate a case list at the training.
